“Swifties” also known as Taylor Swift’s fandom, have been invested in her relationships for over a decade. From British actor, Joe Alwyn to the 1975 singer Matty Healy, fans have publicly shared their opinions on Swift’s love life. However, no relationship of hers has caused as much buzz as her recent one: Kansas City Chiefs Tight End, Travis Kelce.
Speculations of the couple first began over the summer when Kelce attended one of The Eras Tour shows. If there is one thing “Swifties” are good at, it’s grasping at straws for any new Taylor information they can get. It was not until last Sunday though, when Taylor attended the Chiefs game, that the rumors blew up.
Football and music fans alike are turning to Twitter where they overanalyzed every move the two have made in recent weeks. Even brands, such as Arby’s and RITZ Crackers, are tweeting referring to a tweet by The Eras Tour where Taylor was enjoying chicken with ketchup and (potentially) ranch the night of the game.
Swifties have even gone as far as to question whether the blue outfit Kelce was seen wearing was a reference to Swift’s upcoming album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version). So, does Taylor attending the Chiefs’ Sunday night game mean they are officially a couple? Or is it just a publicity stunt aimed at drawing the media’s attention?
Swift has always been private about her relationships, which leads fans to believe that this one is for real. However, fans likely saw these two together assuming their relationship was not platonic. Now the media is leveraging this information for publicity. Media today is framed in a way that makes it appealing to viewers, which helps explain the popularity behind the narrative. No wonder this story is being recognized by all of the popular outlets.
Either way, Taylor Swift fans are thrilled at a new boyfriend to obsess over. Whether this relationship is for real, or just another stretch by the Swifties, it is serving both parties positive publicity.
